In 1993, Sweden's current prime minister, Fredrik Reinfeldt, published a neoliberal pamphlet, The Sleeping Nation. It's often criticized for its amateur and inhumane views on the welfare system and the Swedish people. One of the most oft-cwoted lines:
»Swedes are mentally handicapped and indoctrinated to believe that politicians can create and guarantee welfare.«
But no! By what sinister means would a democratic politician, the prime minister of the world's most benevolent country nonetheless, come across and dare say such a cunning thing?
I suggest that it's for reasons other than popularly believed. That is, that Reinfeldt's heartless, deceptive statements expressed in the purportedly callow and boorish pamphlet, are wrongly named. Rather they stand as stark truths gained through overcoming Sweden's trammeling, 20th century moral ideology.
Thus, sooner should the Left and all other gripers transpose their criticism, taking it to its rim:
That Swedes are mentally handicapped and indoctrinated, just as any other historical people, should be appreciated as evident.
Accordingly the problem is not the people, but the system, which is why Reinfeldt in the same pamphlet writes that welfare payments should be just high enough to keep people from starving.
They say this is cruel, but cruelty is not our concern. Rather: Does Reinfeldt's statement not miniaturize liberal capitalist oppression? Doesn't such policy keep the masses weak, but sufficiently satiated?
Hence, further transposing the criticism, Reinfeldt is wrong, but for reasons other than commonly thought. What the Left must do is keep faithful to the inner Marxism of Reinfeldt's statements. The Left must take away welfare from all those but the severely ill. They must shock those who survive on benefits into starvation, sending a jolting reminder of the fundamental animality of their oppression, bringing them to focus on their political enemies, and revolutionizing the system that has indoctrinated them, but which today only insufficiently secures social justice and economic fairness.
